SUPPORTING THE PROFESSIONALS SHAPING QUEENSLAND COMMUNITIES

Propeller Programme

One of LGMA’s signature training programmes, Propeller provides delegates with the opportunity to team up with LG officers from other councils to share knowledge/information and learn about LG experiences from other Queensland councils.

Propeller is a commitment of nine workshops (2 in Brisbane and 6 at councils + the final forum, travel and team time for workshop and project commitments). It is the ideal programme to learn more about LG, build networks and collaborate with other council officers working in Queensland.

This programme is suitable for council officers of any age, experience, role, level and interests.  It is a unique experiential learning opportunity for personal and professional development.

Key elements of the programme include:

  • Exposing participants to a broad range of local government experiences and insights at a shire, city, regional and aboriginal council perspective
  • In small teams, participants self-manage 1-2 workshops, necessitating the use of good communication skills, a high level of negotiation and influencing skills, project management and interpersonal skills
  • Exploring and evaluating local government case studies and other learning materials that can be readily applied to daily leadership and management practices in a work environment
  • Participation in the group project and combined team memoir (To see what previous Propeller groups experienced, please scroll down to view their memoirs / projects)
